THE ISLAND
Isla Joya has wonderful elevation over the Caribbean Sea, which is a rare find in Bocas del Toro, where private islands are usually tufts of mangroves! With two varieties of coconut, two mango trees, a mature fruiting avocado tree, some citrus and passion fruit, the island is a birder’s paradise where Aricari Tucans visit daily. Views around the island in every direction are exquisite but the South view takes the cake, facing the massive Chiriqui Lagoon and framed by the Cordillera mountain range.

THE BUILDINGS
The island has 4 buildings, lets start with the main home. A large one bedroom/lounge/1 bath space has a walk in closet and attic storage, cathedral ceilings as well as 3 french doors which open onto a covered veranda of the same size, doubling the living space. On spicy days seal up the space and enjoy the EG4 air conditioning which runs on its very own solar system . On the covered deck there is a two person tub, plumbed with hot and cold water, the perfect place for a romantic drink with a loved one.
Sharing a roof with the bed/bath/lounge/office building, and divided by a pass through, is the open air kitchen, and a second bathroom and outdoor shower. A path from the kitchen to a massive open air rancho leads past a beautiful rock garden, decorated with orchids and a small fish pond, a lovely center piece of the island which divides the spaces in a very ZEN way.
The Rancho, has a vaulted thatch roof, skillfully crafted in a traditional way without twine. The space is the ideal hang out zone, with a fridge and minibar, day beds for extra guests, and patio furniture. It too has a covered deck, cantilevered near the edge of the island, for undisrupted views to the South. From the rancho there is a new staircase which leads to an incredible observation deck, the highest structure of the island has 360 views of Ensenada de Boquete Bay.
Out the back of the Rancho is a engineered pad for the hot tub ( present, but yet to be installed) and a pathway to the private guest casita on the far side of the island. That path leads all the way around the island and gives access to the over the water boat house, storage space and workshop. Within the workshop there are many goodies to be found which will stay with the island… most notably BONE HEAD the boat. Almost all furnishings, and all the new high end appliances will come with the purchase of the island.
